When looking at men’s formal wear you need to follow numerous simple basic guidelines to get an instant classic look which

projects a sense of style.

Getting the right look with men’s formal wear is not difficult, if you follow the effigy guidelines below.

Your suit

In men’s formal wear let’s begin with choosing a formal suit.

1. Style

Changes, but you can’t go wrong with a single-breasted, solid color suit in black, grey or navy blue and always do not forget a single-breasted suit will make you look slimmer and sleeker in appearance.

In men’s formal wear a stylish suit may conjure up a number of images, all of them positive.

A suit may make you look powerful, mature, conservative, or sexy. Remember, most women love men in suits!

2. Fabrics and Patterns

Wool is always a safe option when buying a suit. It looks good and wears well.

Worsted wools are lightweight for spring and summer. Gabardine wools are heavier for winter. Wool Crepes are lightweight with softer finishes. Flannel wools are heaviest. Patterns for consultation suits are fixed to solids, stripes (pinstripe, chalk stripe, beaded-stripe, multistripe), Glen plaids, and checks (hounds-tooth, windowpane, and herringbone).

Picking The Right Shirt

Generally men with narrow faces may choose collars that are wider, to help broaden their faces; conversely, men with wider faces ought to choose collars that are narrower, to aid lengthen their faces.

Ties

Suits come in basic styles and colors, but ties let you show your individuality within a formal look.

If you want to make a bold statement wear a patterned tie with a patterned shirt, make sure that the color systems are the same and that the patterns go in the same direction.

Finally, don’t forget the Length: It must hit the top of your belt buckle and the deal width of ties is among 3 and 4 inches.

Men’s Formal Wear Combining Tie’s Shirts & Suits

When choosing a jacket-shirt-and-tie trio, match it is level of color contrast to your personal colouring.

Your colouring comprises of your complexion and hair color.

If you’re coloring is high-contrast i.e. dark hair and light skin, or vice versa–your jacket, tie, and shirt combo will have to be high contrast, too. But if your hair-hide contrast is softer and lighter i.e. you’re blond or gray-haired with pale skin, or dark-skinned with dark hair–you ought to go for lower-contrast clothes.

Two dissimilar scales For Balance When you’re combining two like patterns in the jacket-shirt-tie triangle, they must be of dissimilar gauges.

If your suit has pinstripes 3/4 inch apart, your tie ought to have significantly broader or thinner bands. If your suit is a striped one (with lines more than an inch apart), your shirt’s stripes ought to be narrower and closer together.

If you wear two dissimilar designs within the lapel triangle–say, a checked shirt and a striped tie, or a striped suit and repeating-medallion tie–they will have to be dissimilar scales in size If your shirt has a narrow stripe, your tie needs a wider stripe i.e. pair big with small.

De Emphasize

Choose clothes that de-emphasize your extremes.

If you’re short, look for strong vertical elements: pinstriped suits, two-button jackets. If you’re very thin, choose a jacket with wider shoulders. If you have a heavier build then Wear darker colors and go monotone from top to bottom.

Watches

The primary thing to look for in a man’s watch is a huge face, as these designs are in general accepted by everyone as looking stylish.

Get a nice belt

Don’t forget your belt you want quality, a good quality belt doesn’t have to be pricey and is cash well spent.

Your belt color must be organized with your footwear – black with black, brown with brown.

Shoes

Black is the established safe color for work but Brown or ox blood colors may also look stylish.

You may also use a potpourri of styles including loafers, wingtips, round-toe, or the trendier pointy-tipped shoe.

Shoes are no place to economize on quality. For men, shoes are the final detail and are one of the areas all women notice.

FREE Image and Style Guides

Men’s formal wear may actually make a great impression if worn in the right way.

Charme
This belt is great for shorter runs outside or when I am working out and running on the treadmill in the gym and only need my BlackBerry or iPod (I hate using armbands). The belt fits snugly and is easily adjustable, and the small pouch expands nicely and zips to protect the contents. In a race you could easily carry your gel. For travel purposes, this takes up the least amount of space of any of my running accessories. In fact, when not in use, the pouch is so small that when my local running store first showed it to me, I was skeptical that it could hold both my BlackBerry AND its protective case. But then I tried it out in the store and was amazed how roomy this little pouch could be (though of course it is too small for a wallet or sunglasses).

This belt is so lightweight that I soon forget that I am wearing it, so depending on what I am bringing on longer runs, I either use it in addition to my normal Amphipod running waist pack, or else attach my Amphipod rapid access pouch to this belt for additional storage.

One word of caution. The fabric on this pouch is very thin and is not mesh. That means if you sweat, whatever is in the pouch may get sweaty too, so on a really hot and humid day I would use this pouch to carry my gel and electrolyte tablets rather than my BlackBerry or iPod. [But see July 18,2010 update below].

Bottom Line: This is a versatile running accessory and a nice addition to my collection of various running gear. I recommend it.

Update October 10, 2009: Recently I went running in the late afternoon and the sun started going down before I was done. I just took off my sunglasses and easily secured the frame with this belt. My sunglasses stayed nice and snug for the last couple of miles of my run.

Update March 30, 2010: I continue to find new uses for this. I keep my BlackBerry in the pouch; clip my Slacker G2 portable player, gel pouch, and running light to the front strap; clip an over the shoulder water bottle carrier to the back strap to stabilize it; and store my gloves, arm warmers, hat or balaclava on the strap when the temperature rises during my run and it is too warm to wear them. I absolutely love this belt for running.

Update July 18, 2010: I have been running in some really hot and humid weather, which means that my tanktop is drenched in sweat, which in turn makes the pouch on this belt pretty sweaty. However, even after a two hour run, the BlackBerry that I am carrying in the pouch is only a little moist, and not enough to worry about or cause any problems.

Update September 16, 2010: This belt is so lightweight and useful that I automatically take it whether I am doing a short or long run. Next to my Garmin Forerunner 405cx, this belt has become my most important running accessory. I also used it all summer long with my Amphipod rapid access pouch when taking walks at the beach on the boardwalk or on the sand by the ocean to carry various items like my BlackBerry, cash, credit card, etc.

Update August 2, 2011: I recently switched to using the Amphipod AirFlow Microstretch waistpack, which I bought at my local REI store though it is widely available online (though currently not on Amazon). The Amphipod is just as lightweight and fits just as securely as the SPIbelt, but has the following advantages for me:

1. The pocket is 9″x2″, which is much larger than that on the SPIbelt, so it can easily hold more items than just my BlackBerry, such as a pair of sunglasses and gel.

2. The pocket is made out of mesh, which lets the air circulate. This summer we have had several heat waves in New Jersey, and with a mesh pocket the contents do not “sweat” at all.

3. There is an internal divider which is handy for keeping items separate.

4. For nighttime running there is a reflective band in the back.

If you prefer the absolute smallest pocket (and some runners do), then the SPIbelt is great. However, if you prefer a larger pocket, as well as mesh that breathes in warm weather, but still want a lightweight and compact unit, then the Amphipod is worth considering. It costs a few dollars less than the SPIbelt.

Finally, the Amphipod nicely holds a passport. My son decided to use it for a trip overseas instead of the “regular” passport holders because it is light, compact, and is easily concealed underneath a shirt.

I need to carry a cell phone, my keys, hand wipes and gels. This pouch can get pretty stuffed. Within the first hour and the use of one gel it gets smaller. I can pack a cell phone, hand wipes, a few gels and keys. It can be a little cumbersome when it is packed but when running long distances that does not last long as you use the things in the pouch. It can comfortably carry a cell phone, keys, tissues, or whatever it is you need. I find that when the actual pouch is resting on the hip when it is packed it does not bounce. The belt also allows you to clip your Ipod and pepper spray to it for easy access. This product has made my life mush easier and I do not go running without it.

I am relatively new to running/jogging (in the past 3-4 years), and wanted to find a way to carry items when my shorts don’t have pockets. This item looked ideal. However, I have a skinny midsection and larger hip area. This belt is stretchy, and when I tried to wear it the way it is depicted on the tag (which is slung WAY low on the hips) it wouldn’t stay put and kept inching up higher and higher. It inched up far enough that it wasn’t tight anymore and bounced all over. The only way I can wear this and have it stay put is to secure it a little ways below my ribcage, which is not very comfortable. I will continue to give it a try, but very disappointed.

Not much, I guess. What else do you say about shoes? Did I mention that these shoes feel great on the feet, as they would feel anywhere else? Seriously, buy a pair if you’re into that whole wearing-shoes thing. $40 or so for a great pair of shoes, very good deal. I mean, you could do a lot worse; you could be spending any money at all on a pair of Crocs. (Whatever America did to deserve those, we sincerely apologize.) Anyway, wearing them with a pair of shorts is fine, but if you’re vain when it comes to your legs or you’re not quite ready to let your friends know that you too shave the fuzz from your legs, wear these Originals with a pair of trousers, khaki or gray, whatever you’re feeling. The shoes are casually athletic, like white guys who say, “Yeah, I play soccer” but in fact have never played soccer for a recreational team and have little-to-none-at-all knowledge about the sport, but the idea sounds good. What’s better than running around on green grass, sometimes getting to kick a ball, in short shorts and a jersey, giving yourself and others the impression that you’re athletic? You’re fooling everyone, don’t worry. And after you wipe your forehead and throw your short bangs back, covered in sweat, after you trot over to the sideline, breathing hard, grab a towel, wipe yourself off, sit down in the grass and not the bleachers (on purpose, of course; athletes don’t sit in seating apparatuses), take off those hopefully-filthy cleats and slip on these cool-as-hell vintage shoes. I promise they will reinforce your image as an athlete. Did I mention they feel like a foot-rub given by the most beautiful girl in the world? Please, wear these shoes with a sense of honor: be yourself, and for God’s sakes, don’t pop your collar.

I wish we had gone with the Lands End version earlier. Those are not as durable as the Capezio, but are more comfortable.

We have both the Light Ballet Pink and the Light Suntan colors for my daughter’s ballet classes. They are very soft, and seem to be very sturdy so far! We had another brand of footed tights before this, and these seem much studier and higher quality… however, they are also much higher priced too! They have already been washed many times, and seem to stand up better than our previous brand did. My daughter wears a size 10 clothes, so she fits perfectly into these size 7-16 tights. I would NOT think an older girl in size 16s would fit, but we’ll see when the time comes… ha, ha! Overall, a good buy with the free shipping, as they discontinued our previous local cheaper brand.

I had bought a pair of these about 3 years back and there was no such problem then and they were sooo soft, so decided to try anyway. Unfortunately it’s true. The way they’ve stitched the ending of the seam together center inside back on the top, it’s too thick and sticks out about 1/8″ inch, and it’s NOT soft. If they wouldn’t have pulled the waist band so tight to stitch, it wouldn’t be a problem, but alas it is. However, because these tights are soooo soft and durable, my daughter wanted to keep them anyway, and I found a simple fix… a bandaid. Just stick it over that seam that sticks out and voila, no more issues so she can wear the tights for all the perks, without the problem…. I’m sure it could be fixed further maybe by cutting that extra area off and having it stitched together, with less excess, but sewing is unfortunately not my forte. In comparison though, the regular Bloch tights we used to buy, seem to have gotten cheaper in quality though because they used to last years, and now they’ve ripped within 3 uses…. so just one of those things that makes it hard to decide which way to go. Best of luck!

Classifications of Men and Their Skills With Women.

Though It goes without saying that there’s a wide spectrum in amid all of these and no one (except for omega males) perfectly fits into a peculiar category.

However, I think if you test these ideas out and keep them in mind, you’ll find them to be rather exact and useful. Try These and see what you find.

That said, let’s get on with it…

The Player.

This is a guy who has figured out a few tricks that support him attract and sleep with women. However, he sees women as objects, tools for his own masturbation, not as real humans with actual feelings.

The up side is that players may be very social and charming and even fun to be around, so they are difficult to detect.

He may have been a nice guy in the past but has been burned so much that he went way over to the opposite extreme and stopped caring.

He now devotes his social time to using women for sex and bragging with regards to it crassly.

Players may have a solid aroused presence but they lack the capacity for long term commitment (i.e. consistent sex).

Players are secretly frighted of death, even though the topic is seldom even brought up by them because they’re busy thinking regarding who they will manipulate next.

Players specifically do not aim to improve themselves beyond figuring out tricks to sleep with women through their own trial and error.

Players don’t want relationships but this is oftentimes because they lack the integrity to be competent to.

The Pimp.

Skilled at surrounding himself with women and dominating them, but completely lacks the ethics to make his attempts last or to have women permanently respect him. Ultimately his conquests come to an end due to the women ultimately mustering up the courage to leave together, and he’s back to searching the streets for more prey. Committment or even decent friendships are difficult if not out of the question for such a person (with the exception, perhaps, of a few legendary pimps such as those seen in the famous documentary… however, none of that is utile to you who is reading this because you’ll never become that. It’s just not you and getting caught and going to jail in all probability sucks…..)

The Pick Up Artist (Or “PUA” or “Seduction Artist”)

This one is tricky because there are decent guys in the seduction community who are innocently just attempting to improve their dating lives and themselves in general.

However, the pua community is fundamentally the McDonald’s of self-improvement. It’s cheap, it’s quick, it gets the occupation done, but it is unsustainable both as a life style and a skillset. (liability replacement: it’s not for everyone).

Men… never forget that it is still YOU who drives your own success. Educational materials, coaches, and experience guides are just tools in your toolbelt. It’s still up to you to choose the most effective one for the job, and you damn well better have a keen eye if you are to crank up your own success up to it is greatest or most complete or best possible potential heights.

Still, by and large, a pick up artisan is kind of like a player but arguably worse because he ACTIVELY tries to seduce women and relentlessly tests ways of figuring out how to get around a woman’s boundaries so that she’ll sleep with him. He then makes a mental note of his conquest and spreads his conclusions all over the internet onto respective seduction forums, unbeknownst to his women.

The tricks he learns are not by accident. They are by pathologically obsessive exercise with the ONLY goal being to sleep with women and not one thing else.

In fact, not similar to the player (who has a great deal of charm due to trial and error), much of the beautiful and charming calibers of a pickup artisan are all an intricately constructed sham, a persona.

Pickup artists due intention to improve themselves but a lot of of them are misguided in the resources they apply to do so. At best these are men who are genuinely decent and merely wear the “PUA” banner. At worst, they take on a cult-like religious obsession with pick up material and refuse to listen to any other form of dating counsel from any individual outside of the peculiar seduction coach they worship.

Just remember, guys, “good” is ofttimes the worst enemy of “great”…..

Some pick up artists are ethical, numerous are not. Some are finish sleazeballs with a cautiously crafted persona designed to fool those around them.

The main facillitator of this semi-effective (but to a considerable degree flawed) cultural trend is a very tall stage magician (literally) who runs around in amusive hats attempting to train his students to be just like him (rather than being themselves). His attainments are for the most part due to his personality type more so thaun what he teaches.

Completely lacks any authenti understanding of humane psychology beyond a very skewed model of humane attraction.

If you are a woman and find yourself saying “no” to a pick up artisan when things are getting intimate, prepare to be in for further manipulation tactics such as a “freeze out” where he walks off and ignores you until you come back, or his next slew of lines designed to get around your defenses and not respecting your wishes.

I’m not saying it doesn’t work. Many guys in this niche of dating counsel do assert much progression in the ways of seduction. However, if the counsel taught comes at the cost of honestness or ethics, then the effects are short lived or there is (at best) a ceiling to how well they work. Ask any individual who has moved onto a happy, steady monogamous relationship. They commonly drop much of what they learned because it wasn’t necessary.

Some pickup artists are just wussy guys with tricks up their sleeve, and feel a sense of entitlement toward women.

Others are alpha males who have become even less scrupulous due to learning new gimmicks.

Sexually Amazing, Intelligent, Mature Women who make for awful girlfriends seldom fall for pua tricks, and if they do, they figure out they’ve been scammed and never call the pua back.

The Wussy (Also known as a narcissist, or a boy in a man’s body, or the “whimpster”).

Similar to a beta male, notwithstanding the wussy is even worse because he engages in manipulative behavings that seem nice and innocent on the surface. Worse still, he may not even be conscious of his own wrongdoing in his quest to win your affection.

The wussy will undertake to buy attraction through extraordinary acts of generosity, unusually high kindness, extravagant gives and endless attention.

This is the guy who left roses at the locker of his high school crush even even though he never had the balls to eve say “hi” to her first.

Sometimes they may be sweet and charming in the beginning, but may hide mystery sensations of resentment, hurt, anger, or anxiety around women.

In the worst of cases, wussy may turn into stalkers, so watch out.

Popular examples:

Lloyd Dobbler From The Famous John Cusack Film (Say Anything)

Grey’s Anatomy (Anything AFTER Season 1)

Conor Oberst (Lead singer of “Bright Eyes”)

James Blunt

Michael Flatley

You?

The Alpha Male (Also known as “The Bad Boy”)

This is your jock. Your mountain climber. Your lumberjack. Your Fighter. Your Cage Fighter. Your Biker. Your Rock Star. Your European Adulterer. The Club Thumper.

He comes in galore external forms, but deep down his core traits are the same:

He is irresistibly manly and exceedingly sexually attractive. He plays by his own rules and doesn’t care. He’s on his own path. He’s tough on the inside and out. Great at fighting (or at least starting fights), and outstanding at sex.

His flirting and sexual attraction attainments are fantastic, and he feels very powerful, dominant, dangerous-yet-safe, and enticing to be around.

However, his volatile nature also means he could be an abusive jerk (sometimes this is true, most times not, so be aware).

Often times lacks ethics, which means he’ll do ANYTHING (even hurt people without caring) in order to get women. Lies are his modus operandi, and anything is reasonable game no matter whose hearts get broken.

Because of this his attempts at conquest never lead to a kinship (unless the girl in question has low self esteem), and fights with his woman (or women) ensue…. if he even sticks around at all.

An alpha male has zero potential for a long term relationship, or even a friendship. After he has sex with the woman he sets his eyes on, he’s gone, never to return.

Many alpha males never aim to improve themselves and they don’t care to. Other potentially destructive behavings may develop, including drug use, drinking, cheating, and jail time.

Popular Examples (Just to name a few):

King Kong

Unfaithful Film Character (Olivier Martinez)

Any action film villian

The Beta Male (Also known as the “Nice Guy”).

Consistently the victim of the dreaded “let’s just be friends” speech, the beta male is normally a decent person. He’s friendly, nice, trustworthy, and would never injure a woman regardless. Because of these positive calibers he likely makes friends with women and persons in popular somewhat easily.

He also may have a steady career with a decent income, but he lacks a sense of a deeper mission or intent for his life which makes him less attractive…. as if “something is missing”.

Sexually he may have a few kinks but overall he’s somewhat boring, and as a person he’s stable yet predictable and therefore a kinship with him will grow stale overtime.

The downside is he many times gives a bit TOO much without asking for anything in return and in all probability doesn’t stick up for himself enough. Tends to get too in an emotional manner attached to women too speedily but doesn’t have the sexual attraction achievements to elicit her desires, so he gets the friend zone.

If he ever does get a date, it is with a girl who is way beneath his worth because he believes he may do no better, or with a beauteous girl who is merely desperate to find an individual “stable” (i.e. she’s tired of dating jerks and decides to tolerate boredom over abuse).

Most beta males do not intent to improve themselves or do not recognise how. Some beta males are very cynical and have a “poor me” attitude.

Beta males are affrighted of death deep down even if they outwardly say they are not.

Popular Examples (Just to name a few):

Bright Eyes Lead Singer

Lloyd Dobbler (Old John Cusack Character)

The Omega Male (Also known as A “Real Man” and “A Gentleman with an Edge”).

The best mixture of a sex god, a badass, a authenti friend, and impeccable integrity and morals. This is the man who has all of the badassery of an alpha male, and all of the positive friendly traits of a beta male, but with NONE of the negative side effects of either.

This is the most eminent state of development a man may achieve in his life.

Omega males are tough, strong-minded, genuine, honest, kind, ethical, wise, practical, self-aware, responsible, wild, passionate, and fabulously good at sex, flirting, and social skills.

Omega Males are unusually rare due to the amount of work and crusade it takes to become one, omega males are what all women in the end seek to be with.

Only a foolish woman would cheat on or leave an omega male, and even then this seldom happens because the Omega Male knows how to choose the right girlfriend (or wife) within minutes of meeting her.

Those who scoff at this notion or doubt it only do so because they’ve never experienced it.

Omega Males are not perfective (because perfection is impossible), but they ARE perfectly awesome.

Due to their accomplishments they are capable of having any kind of relationships with women they want with zero drama, and women be grateful for them, love them, and lust for them GREATLY.

Omega Males have a STRONG sense of their mission in life, their reason for existing, are not scared of death, Omega Males are on a never ending path to become better men, and they improve their accomplishments in all distinct elements of life daily.

For women, an experience with an omega male is often times an unforgettable one.

Popular Examples (Just to name a few, In No Particular Order):

Gerald Butler (Leonidas From 300)

Christian Bale

Sean Connery

George Clooney

Ernest Hemmingway

Gregory Peck

Brad Pitt

Edward Norton

Will Smith

Denzel Washington

Samuel L. Jackson

Antonio Banderas

V from V for Vendetta

Humphrey Bogart

Clark Gable

Carey Grant

Any James Bond 007 Character.

Jesus

Buddha

They fit nicely, comfortable all day, and act like a second skin, and stay where they are put (not riding up or bunching). They are a durable semi-spandex like material that are amazing cool to wear, not stuffy like you think spandex would be. I also own several pairs of the Adidas Men’s Sport Performance Flex 360, and preferr these to those because 1. I think these wear cooler and 2. better value, two pairs of these for the cost of 1 pair of those. The others are more of a mesh/spandex pattern, and are supposed to be cooler, but I do not notice much of a difference. However, they have some different color combinations that made getting a few pairs of those appealing to me. Overall, I wish I had found these sooner, highly reccomended.

He says they’re comfortable & don’t stretch out. I like that they average out to be $12/each. It beats the Calvin Klein underwear we used to get for $25-$30 each & these are better. Win-win!

They are so warm and comfortable. The elastic waist does not stretch out and the bottom of the legs rarely roll up with my everyday activity. They look great too! LOVE THEM!

Langston Hughes stands as a literary and cultural translation of the political resistance and effort of black consciousness leaders such as Martin Luther King to restore the rights of the black citizenry thence fulfilling the ethos of the American dream, which is celebrated universally each year around February to April.

Hughes’ overriding sense of a social and cultural intent tied to his sense of the past, the present and the future of black America commends his life and works as having much to learn from to inspire us to move forward and to inform and guide our steps as we move forward to invent a great future.

Hughes is also substantial since he seems to have conveniently spanned the genres: poetry, drama, novel and criticism leaving an indelible stamp on each. At 21 years of age he had published in all four (4) areas. For he always considered himself an artisan in words who would crusade into each single area of literary creativity, because there were readers for whom a story meant more than a poem or a song lyric meant more than a story and Hughes wanted to reach that person and his kind.

But firstborn and foremost, he considered himself a poet. He wanted to be a poetical who could address himself to the worries of his humans in poems that could be read with no formal training or extensive literary background. In spite of this Hughes wrote and staged dozens of short stories, with regards to a dozen books for children, a history of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured Peoples (NAACP), two volumes of autobiography, opera libretti, song lyrics and so on. Hughes was driven by a sheer selfassurance in his skillfulness and in the power of his craft.

Hughes” commitment to Africa was real and concretized in both words and deeds. The fact of his Negro-ness (though light-complexioned) has aroused in him a desire to challenge those from the other side of the color line that reject it:

My old man’s a white old man

And my old mother’s black

My old ma passed from physical life in a fine big house

My crazy passed from physical life in a shack

I wonder where I’m gonna die

Being neither white nor black?

His search for his origins was given impetus when in 1923 Hughes met and heard Marcus Garvey exhort Negroes to go back to Africa to escape the wrath of the white man. Hughes then became one of the poets who thought they felt the beating of the jungle tom-toms in the Negroes’ pulse. Their verse took on a nostalgic mood, and a great deal of even imagined that they were infusing the rhythms of African dancing and music into their verse like we could sense in the reading of this poem: ‘Danse Africaine’:

The low beating of the tom toms,

The slow beating of the tom toms,

Low …slow

Slow …low -

Stirs your blood.

Dance!

A night-veiled girl

Whirls softly into a

Circle of light.

Whirls softly …slowly,

Born in Joplin, Missouri in 1902, Hughes grew up in Lawrence, Kansas and Lincoln, Illinois, before going to high school in Cleveland, Ohio in of which places, he was share of a little community of blacks to whom he was nevertheless profoundly attached from early in his life. Though descending from a discerned family his infancy was disrupted by the separation of his parents not long after his birth. His father then emigrated to Mexico where he hoped to gain the success that had eluded him in America. The color of his skin, he had hoped, would be less of a thoughtfulness in determining his future in Mexico. There, he broke new ground. He gained success in business and lived the rest of his life there as a prosperous attorney and landowner.

In contrast, Hughes’ mother lived the transitory life mutual for black mothers oftentimes leaving her son in the care of her mother while searching for a job.

His maternal grandmother, Mary Langston, whose initial husband had passed away at Harpers Ferry as a fellow member of John Brown’s band, and whose second husband (Hughes’s grandfather) had likewise been a militant abolitionist. instilled in Hughes a sense of commitment most of all. Hughes lived successively with family friends, then respective relatives in Kansas.

Another crucial family figure was John Mercer Langston, a brother of Hughes’s grandfather who was one of the best-known black Americans of the nineteenth century.

Hughes later joined his mother even altho she was now with his new stepfather in Cleveland, Ohio. At the same time, Hughes was struggling with a sense of desolation fostered by parental neglect. He himself recalled being driven early by his loneliness ‘to books, and the fantasti world in books.’ He became disillusioned with his father’s materialistic values and contemptuous faith that blacks, Mexicans and Indians were lazy and ignorant.

At Central High School Hughes excelled academically and in sports. He wrote poetry and short fiction for the school’s literary magazine and edited the school year book. He returned to Mexico where he taught English briefly and wrote poems and prose pieces for publication in The Crisis the magazine of the NAACP.

Aided by his father, he arrived in New York in 1921 ostensibly to attend Columbia University but genuinely it was to see Harlem. One of his greatest poems, “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” had just been published in The Crisis. His talent was without delay spotted even though he only lasted one year at Columbia where he did well but never felt comfortable.

On campus, he was subjected to bigotry. He was assigned the worst dormitory room because of his color. Classes in English creative writing of recognized artisti value were all he could endure. Instead of attending classes which he found boring he would ordinary shows, lectures and readings sponsored by the American Socialist Society. It was then that he was initial introduced to the laughter and pain, hunger and heartache of blues music. It was the night life and culture that lured him out of college. Those sweet sad blues songs captured for him the intense pain and yearning that he saw around him, and that he integrated into such poems as “The Weary Blues”.

To keep himself going as a poetical and help his mother, Hughes served in turn as: a deliverance boy for a florist; a vegetable farmer and a mess boy on a ship up the Hudson River. As percentage of a merchandiser steamer crew he sailed to Africa. He then traveled the same way to Europe, where he jumped Ship in Paris only to spend various months working in a night-club kitchen and then wandering off to Italy.

By 1924 his poetry which he had all along been working on showed the powerful influence of the blues and jazz. His poem “The Weary Blues” which best exemplifies this influence helped launch his career when it won primary prize in the poetry section of the 1925 literary contest of Opportunity magazine and also won another literary prize in Crisis.

This landmark poem, the firstborn of any poetical to make use of that basic blues form is percentage of a volume of that same title whose entire collection reflects the frenzied atmosphere of Harlem nightlife. Most of it is selections just as “The Weary Blues” approximate the phrasing and meter of blues music, a genre extrapolated in the early 1920s by rural and urban blacks. In it and such other pieces as “Jazzonia” Hughes evoked the frenzied hedonistic and glittering atmosphere of Harlem’s widely known and esteemed night-clubs. Poetry of social commentary such as “Mother to Son” show how hardened the blacks have to be to face the innumerable hurdles that they have to battle through in life.

Hughes’ earliest influences as a mature poetical came interestingly from white poets. We have Walt Whitman the man who through his artistic violations of old conventions of poetry opened the boundaries of poetry to new forms like free verse. There is also the highly populist white German Émigré Carl Sandburg, who as Hughes’ ” guiding star,” was decisive in leading him toward free verse and a radically democratic modernist aesthetic

But black poets Paul Laurence Dunbar, a master of both dialect and popular verse, and Claude McKay, the black radical socialist an emigre from Jamaica who likewise wrote accomplished lyric poetry, stood for him as the embodiment of the cosmopolitan and yet racially convinced and devoted black poetical Hughes hoped to be. He was also indebted to older black literary figures such as W.E.B. Dubois and James Weldon Johnson who admired his work and aided him. W.E.B. Dubois’ collection of Pan-Africanist essays Souls of Black Folks has markedly influenced a heap of black writers like Hughes, Richard Wright and James Baldwin.

Such colour-affirmative images and sentiments as that in “people”: The night is beautiful,/So the faces of my persons and in ‘Dream Variations: Night coming tenderly,/ Black like me. endeared his work to a wide range of African Americans, for whom he delighted in writing,.

Hughes had always shown his determination to experiment as a poetical and not slavishly follow the tyranny of tight stanzaic forms and precise rhyme. He seemed, like Watt Whitman and Carl Sandburg, to prefer to write verse which captured the realities of American speech rather than “poetic diction”, and with his ear in particular attuned to the varieties of black American speech.

“Weary Blues” combines these respective constituents the mutual speech of usual people, jazz and blues music and the traditionalisti forms of poetry adapted to the African American and American subjects. In his adaptation of traditionalisti poetic forms basi to jazz then to blues from time to time using dialect but in a way radically dissimilar from earlier writers, Hughes was well served by his early experimentation with a loose form of rhyme that ofttimes gave way to an inventively rhythmic free verse:

Ma an ma baby

Got two mo’ ways,

Two mo’ ways to do de buck!

Even more radical experimentation with the blues form led to his next collection, Fine Clothes to the Jew. Perhaps his finest single book of verse, including various ballads, Fine Clothes was also his least favourably welcomed.

Several reviewers in black newsprints and magazines were distressed by Hughes’ fearless and, ‘tasteless’ evocation of elements of lower-class black culture, including it is on occasion raw eroticism, never before treated in severe poetry.

Hughes expressing his determination to write when it comes to such people and to experiment with blues and jazz wrote in his essay “The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain.” Published in the Nation in 1926

‘We younger artists…intend to express our person dark-skinned selves Without fear or shame. If white people are pleased we are glad. If they Are not, it doesn’t matter. We recognise we are beautiful, And ugly too.’

Hughes indicated his determination to write fearlessly, shamelessly and unrepentantly regarding low-class black life and people inspite of opposition to that. He also exercised much freedom in experimenting with blues as well as jazz.

The tom-tom cries and the tom-tom laughs. If coloured humans are pleased we are glad. If they are not their displeasure doesn’t matter either. We build our temples for tomorrow, strong as we recognise how and we stand on top of the mountains, free within ourselves.

With his espousal of such thoughts defending the freedom of the black writer Hughes became a beacon of light to younger writers who likewise wished to assert their right to explore and exploit allegedly degraded distinct features of black people. He therefore provided the motion with a manifesto by so skillfully arguing the need for both race pride and artistic independence in this his most unforgettable essay,

In 1926 Hughes returned to school in the throughout history black Lincoln University in Pennsylvania where he continued publishing poetry, short stories and essays in mainstream and black-oriented periodicals

In 1927 together with Zora Neal Hurston and other writers he founded Fire a literary diary committed to African -American culture and purposed at demolishing the older forms of black literature. The effort itself was short-lived. It was engulfed in fire along with it is editorial offices.

Then a 70 – year old wealthy white patron entered his life. Charlotte Osgood Mason, who started directing almost each aspect of Hughes’ life and art. Her passionate faith in parapsychology, intuition and folk culture was brought into supervising the writing of Hughes’ novel: Not Without Lauqhter in which his boyhood in Kansas is drawn to depict the life of a sensible black child, Sandy, growing up in a representative, middle-class.mid-western African-American home.

Hughes’ kinship with Mason came to an explosive end in 1930. Hurt and baffled by Mason’s rejection, Hughes used cash from a prize to spend assorted weeks recovering in Haiti. From the intense personal unhappiness and depression into which the break had sunk him.

Back in the U.S., Hughes made a sharp turn to the political left. His verses and essays were now being published in New Masses, a diary controlled by the Communist Party. Later that year he started out touring.

The renaissance which was long over was substituted for Hughes by a sense of the need for political struggle and for an art that reflected this radical approach. But his career, not similar to others then, effortlessly pulled through the end of that movement. He held on formulating his art in keeping with his sense of himself as a exhaustively professional writer. He then published his primary collections, the oftentimes acerbic and even embittered The Ways of White Folks.

Hughes’ main concern was now, the theatre. Mulatto, his drama of race-mixing and the South was the longest running play by an African American on Broadway until Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun appeared in the 1960′s. His dramas – comedies and ramas of domestic black American life, for the most part – were also general with black audiences. Using such inventions as theatre-in-the-round and invoking audience participation, Hughes anticipated the work of later avant-garde dramatists like Amiri Baraka and Sonia Sanchez. In his drama Hughes combines urban dialogue, folk idioms, and a thematic special and significant stress on the dignity and strength of black Americans.

Hughes wrote other plays, including comedies such as Little Ham (1936) and a historical drama, Emperor of Haiti (1936) most of which were only moderate successes. In 1937 he expended various months in Europe, including a long stay in besieged Madrid. In 1938 he returned home to found the Harlem Suitcase Theater, which staged his agitprop drama Don’t You Want to Be Free? employing assorted of his poems, vigorously blended black nationalism, the blues, and socialist exhortation. The same year, a socialist establishment published a pamphlet of his radical verse, “A New Song.”

With the get started of World War II, Hughes returned to the political centre. The Big Sea, his initial volume of his autobiography work with it is unforgettable portrait of the renaissance and his African voyages written in an episodic, lightly comic style with almost no mention of his leftist sympathies appeared.

In his book of verse Shakespeare in Harlem (1942) he once again sang the blues. On the other hand, this collection, as well as another, his Jim Crow’s Last Stand (1943), strongly attacked racial segregation.

In poetry, he revived his interest in galore of his old themes and forms, as in Shakespeare in Harlem (1942).the South and West, taking poetry to the people. He read his poems in churches and in schools. He then sailed from New York for the Soviet Union. He was among a band of young African-Americans invited to take portion in a film when it comes to American race relations.

This filmmaking venture, even though unsuccessful, proved instrumental to heightening his short story writing. For whilst in Moscow he was struck by the correspondings amid D. H. Lawrence’s reputation in a title story from his collection The Lovely Lady and Mrs Osgood Mason. Overwhelmed by the power of Lawrence’s stories, Hughes begun writing short fiction of his. On his return to the U. S.. by 1933 he had sold three stories and had begun compiling his original collection.

Perhaps his finest literary accomplishment for the duration of the war came in writing a on a weekly basis column in the Chicago Defender from 1942 to 1952. the spotlight of which was an offbeat Harlem reputation called Jesse B. Semple, or Simple, and his exchanges with a staid narrator in a neighborhood bar, where Simple commented on a potpourri of matters but principally with regards to race and racism. Simple became Hughes’s most celebrated and beloved fictional creation. and one of the freshest, most arousing and attention holding and enduring Negro characters in American fiction Jesse B Simple, is a Harlem Everyman, whose comic manner scarcely obscured some of the severe themes raised by Hughes in relating Simple’s exploits in the quintessential “wise-fool’ whose experience and uneducated perceptivities capture the foilings of being black in America.. His honorable and uncomplicated eye sees through the shallowness, hypocrisy and phoniness of white and black Americans alike. From his stool at Paddy’s Bar, in a delightful brand of English, Simple remarks both wisely and hilariously on a good deal of things but primarily on race and women.

His bebop-shaped poem Montage of a Dream Deferred (1991) projects a altering Harlem, fertile with humanity but in decline. In it, the drasti deteriorated state of Harlem in the 1950s is contrasted to the Harlem of the 20s. The ebullience of night-club life and the vitality of cultural renaissance has now gone. An urban ghetto plagued by poverty and crime has taken it is place. A change in rhythm parallels the change in tone. The smooth patterns and tame melancholy of blues music are substituted by the abrupt, fragmented structure of post-war jazz and bebop. Hughes was alert to what was happening in the African-American world and what was coming. This is why this volume of verse reflected so much the new and comparatively new be-bop jazz rhythms that emphasized dissonance They therefore reflected the new pressures that were straining the black communities in the cities of the North.

Hughes’ living much of his life in basements and attics brought much realism and humanity to his writing particularly his short stories. He therefore remained close to his immense public as he kept moving figuratively through the basements of the world where his life is thickest and where mutual people struggle to make their way. At the same time, writing in attics, he rose to the long perspective that enabled him to radiate a humanizing, beautifying, but still truthful light on what he saw.

Hughes’ short stories reflect his entire intent as a writer. For his art was aimed at interpreting “the beauty of his own people,” which he felt they were taught either not to see or not to take pride in. In all his stories, his humanity, his faithful and artistic demonstrations of both racial and national truth – his successful mediation amidst the beauties and the terrors of life around him all shine out. Certain themes, technical excellencies or social perceptivities loom out.

“Slave in the Block” for example, a simple but bright tale reveals the lack of respect and even humane communication, amidst Negroes and those patronizing and cosmetic whites.

Hughes also took time to write for children developing the successful Popo and Fifina (1932), a tale set in Haiti with Arna Bontemps. He ultimately published a dozen children’s books, on subjects such as jazz, Africa, and the West Indies. Proud of his versatility, he likewise wrote a commissioned history of the NAACP and the text of a much praised pictorial history of black America The Sweet Flypaper of Life (1955), where he explicated photographs of Harlem by Roy DeCarava, which was judged masterful by reviewers, and confirmed Hughes’s reputation for an unrivaled command of the subtle differences in meaning or opinion or attitude of black urban culture.

Hughes’s suffered neverending harassment with regards to his ties to the Left. In vain he protested he had never been a Communist having severed all such links. In 1953 he was subjected to public humiliation at the hands of Senator Joseph McCarthy, when he was forced to appear in Washington, D.C., and testify officially when it comes to his politics. Hughes refused that he had ever been a communist but conceded that a great deal of of his radical verse had been ill-advised.

Hughes’s career scarcely suffered from this. Within a short time McCarthy himself was discredited. Hughes now wrote at length in I Wonder as I Wander (1956), his much-admired second volume of autobiography. when it comes to his years in the Soviet Union. He became prosperous, altho he always had to work hard for his measure of prosperity. In the 1950s he turned to the musical stage for success, as he sought to repeat his major success of the 1940s, when Kurt Weill and Elmer Rice had chosen him as the lyricist for their Street Scene (1947). This production was hailed as a breakthrough in the development of American opera; for Hughes, the apparently endless cycle of poverty into which he had been locked came to an end. He purchased a home in Harlem.

By the end of his life Hughes was almost universally recognized as the most representative writer in the history of African American creative writing of recognized artisti value and likewise as probably the most initial of all black American poets. He thence became the widely acknowledged “Poet Laureate” of the Negro Race!

According to Arnold Rampersad, an authority on Hughes:

Much of his work celebrated the beauty and dignity and Humanity of black Americans. Unlike other writers Hughes basked in the glow of the plainly high regard of his primary audience, African Americans. His poetry, with it is firstborn jazz and blues influence and it is powerful democratic commitment, is almost surely the most influential written by any person of African dissent in this century. Certain of his poems; “Mother to Son” are virtual anthems of black American life and aspiration. His plays alone… could secure him a place in AfroAmerican literary history. His reputation Simple is the most unforgettable single figure to emerge from black journalism. ‘The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain’ is timeless, “it seems as a statement of uninterrupted dilemma facing the young black artist, caught among the contending forces of black and white culture’

Liberated by the examples of Carl Sandburg’s free verse Hughes’ poetry has always aimed for utter directness and simplicity. In this regard, is the notion that he closely never revised his work seeming like romantic poets who believe and demonstrate that poetry is a ‘spontaneous overflow of emotions”.

Like Walt Whitman, Hughes’s great poetic forefather in America’s poetry…, Hughes did believe in the poetry of Emotion, in the power of ideas and sensations that went beyond matters of technical crafts. Hughes never wanted to be a writer who cautiously sculpted rhyme and stanzas and in so doing lost the aroused heart of what he had set out to say.

His poems imbued with the distinctive diction and cadences of Negro idioms in simple stanza patterns and rigorous rhyme systems derived from blues songs enabled him to capture the ambience of the setting as well as the rhythms of jazz music.

He wrote largely in two modes/directions:

(i) lyrics in regards to black life using rhythms and refrains from jazz and

blues.

(ii) Poems of racial protest

exploring the boundaries among black and white America. thence contributing to the strengthening of black consciousness and racial pride than even the Harlem Renaissance’s bequest for it is most militant decades. While never militantly repudiating co-operation with the white community, the poems which protest versus white racism are boldly direct.

In “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” the simple direct and free verse makes clear that Africa’s dusky rivers run concurrently with the poet’s soul as he draws spiritual strength as well as person identity from the collective experience of his ancestors. The poem is according to Rampersad “reminding us that the syncopated beat which the captive Africans brought with them “that found it is original expression here in “the hand clapping, feet stamping, drum-beating rhythms of the humane heart (4 – 5), is as ‘ancient as the world.”

But what Hughes is better known for is his treatment of the future prospects or potentials of African-American experiences and identities. Like Walt Whitman, he devised a persona that speaks for more than himself. His voice in “I too” for instance absorbs the depiction of a whole race into his central cognizance as he laments:

I, too, sing America

I am the darker brother.

I, too, am America.

The “darker brother” celebrating America is sure of a better future when he will no longer be shunted detached by “company”. The poem is characteristic of Hughes’s faith in the racial knowingness of African Americans, a cognizance that reflects their integrity and beauty while simultaneously demanding respect and acceptance from others as peculiarly when: Nobody ‘/I dare Say to me, Eat in the kitchen.

This dogged resistance and the optimisti feeling that all is going to turn out well in facing adversity is what Hughes’ life centred on.thus enabling him to survive and achieve in spite of the obstacles facing him. as Rampersad affirms:.

‘Toughness was a major characteristic of Hughes’ life. For his life was hard. He surely knew poverty and humiliation at the hands of humans with far more power and cash than he had and little respect for writers, peculiarly poets. Through all his poverty and hurt, Hughes held on a steady keel. He was a gentleman, a soft man in a heap of ways, who was sympathetic and affectionate, but was tough to the core.

Hughes’s poetry reveals his hearty appetite for all humanity, his insistence on justice for all, and his faith in the transcendent future prospects or potentials of joy and hope that make room as he aspires in ‘I too’, for everyone at America’s table.

This deep love for all humanity is echoed in one of his poems: ‘My People” some lines of which were earlier referred to:

The night is beautiful,

so the faces of my people,

the stars are beautiful,

so the eyes of my people

Beautiful, also, is the sun

Beautiful also, are the souls of my people

Arnold Rampersad’s last word on Hughes’s humanity, is anchored on three necessary attributes: his tenderness; generosity and his sense of humour.

Hughes was likewise tender. He was a man who lovse other persons and was beloved. It was very hard to find any person who had known him who would say a harsh thing regarding him. People who knew him could do not forget little that wasn’t pleasant of him. Evidently, he radiated joy and humanity and this was how he was remembered after his death.

He loved the company of people. He necessitated to have humans around him. He necessitated them perhaps to counter the necessary loneliness instilled in his soul from early in his life and out of which he made his literary art.

Hughes was a man of great generosity. He was generous to the young and the poor, the needy; he was generous even to his rivals. He was generous to a fault, giving to those who did not always is worthy of his kindness. But he was prepared to peril ingratitude in order to support younger artists in queer and young humans in general.

Hughes was a man of laughter, altho his laughter almost always came in the presence of tears or the threat of the surge of tears. The titles of his primary novel Not Without Laughter and a collection of stories Laughing to Keep from Crying. indicate this. This was basically how he believed life must be faced – with the noesis of it is inescapable loneliness and pain but with an awareness, too, of the therapy of laughter by which we assert the humane in the face of circumstances. We must reach out to people, and one ought to not only have an amazing tolerance of life’s sufferings but must also exuberantly finish the happy aspect of life.

His sense of humour is again credited by a writer from Africa who was like Hughes also faced with fighting racial discrimination and deprivation, Ezekiel Mphahlele.

Here is a man with a boundless zest for life… He has an irrepressible sense of humour, and to meet him is to come face to face with the essence of humane goodness. In spite of his literary success, he has earned himself the respect of young Negro writers, who never find him unwilling to aid them along. And yet he is not condescending. Unlike most Negroes who become famous or prosperous and move to high-class residential areas, he has continued to live in Harlem, which is in sense a Negro ghetto, in a house which he purchased with cash earned as lyricist for the Broadway musical Street Scene.

In explaining and illustrating the Negro condition in America as was his stated vocation, Hughes captured their joys, and the veiled weariness of their lives, the monotony of their jobs, and the veiled weariness of their songs. He accomplished this in poems remarkable not only for their directness and simplicity but for their economy, lucidity and wit. Whether he was writing poems of racial protest like “Harlem” and “Ballad of the Landlord” or poems of racial affirmation like’ Mother to Son’ and ‘The Negro Speaks of Rivers,’ Hughes was competent to find language and forms to express not only the pain of urban life but likewise it is magnificent vitality.

The glasses came with scratches all over it. The glossy paint on the glasses makes it extremely noticeable that there are scratches. Im embarrassed to wear sunglasses that look like i bought them from the dollar store and dragged them behind my car for a day

Also the tint is very low quality and will peel off after just a few months of owning them. the amounth people spend on cheep sunglasses like these here, you could have already had purchased a pair of ray bans that not only come with a warranty, but has scratch resistant lenses, durable frame, and the protection is at the highest it can be and not only protect from UV A, but B and C as well. and if you don’d know what that means heres a little break down for you, A-Aging, B-Burn, and C-Cancer. Also. this style sits straight up and down. the REAL blues brothers wayfarer tilted forward and give the wayfarer a whole new style as well as the way it sits on a face. this style pictured is what we call in the sunglass world the tom Cruise.
